Goodbye, garden. Hello, Buffalo!

July 07, 2010

Pink rain lilies (Zephryanthes ‘Labuffarosea’) open their eager faces to the sky after a rain
I’ve hardly been home lately, and I only unpacked my suitcase this time in order to do laundry. But I’ll be repacking it tomorrow because it’s time for the 3rd annual garden-blogger meet-up!

Catmint (Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’) loves the heat
Following national meet-ups in the southwest (Austin in 2008) and the midwest (Chicago in 2009), this year the northeast is doing the honors. Garden bloggers from 23 U.S. states and from Canada will meet in Buffalo, New York, from Thursday through Sunday, for Garden Bloggers Buffa10.

Yucca rostrata ‘Sapphire Skies’ and narrowleaf zinnia (Zinnia angustifolia) make a hot-and-cold color combination, but they both thrive in the heat
Organizers Elizabeth Licata of Gardening While Intoxicated and Garden Rant and Jim Charlier of Art of Gardening have laid out a weekend of private and public garden tours, arranged bus transportation, and planned lunches, dinners, and happy hours for 70+ of us. I am beyond impressed with Elizabeth and Jim’s organizing mojo.

‘Black Pearl’ ornamental pepper (Capsicum annuum) is rocking that sooty foliage color. Ripening round peppers change from glossy black to candy apple red
I’m looking forward to reunions with far-flung blogging friends I met in Austin and Chicago. Meeting those who are joining the fun for the first time will be terrific too.

The dark foliage of ‘Black Pearl’ is a nice foil to the delicate flowers of Agastache ‘Acapulco Salmon and Pink’
Diana of Sharing Nature’s Garden and I will be travel partners again. She’s a wonderful traveling companion, and we’re sure to have some good laughs along the way.

‘Chocolate Chips’ manfreda (Manfreda undulata) is settling in. A straggler winecup (Callirhoe involucrata) keeps it company
My DH and the kids will be holding down the fort while I’m gone. I will miss them, but a weekend of gardens and gardening friends is too good to pass up.

So goodbye, garden, if only for a few days. Buffalo, here I come!
