On top of Austin at the Austonian

June 06, 2010

I enjoyed a bird’s-eye view of Austin last Wednesday from the top of the Austonian, Austin’s newest, tallest, and surely most luxurious condominium tower. My friend Terry Mitchell, a member of the marketing and public relations team, and his wife kindly offered me and my husband and another couple a private tour of the not-yet-occupied building.
Wow, the views from the top were incredible. Pictured above: Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake), curving around Austin to the east. We could see the airport tower in the distance.

At 683 feet, the 56-story tower dwarfs what used to be the tallest building in Austin, the Frost Bank Tower. It felt strange to be looking down on it.

At a lower level we took in the view of the Capitol at the end of Congress Avenue. The UT Tower is visible on the upper left side of the picture.

On the 10th floor, a swimming pool enjoys views of the Capitol and the Frost Bank Tower. A rooftop garden surrounds the pool and sitting areas, but it was under construction so I don’t have pics.
The interior’s luxury finishes and amenities were every bit as wow-inducing as the exterior views. It was a lot of fun to see how the other half lives. My thanks to Terry for the tour!

Great views yes, but I am pretty sure I’d be dizzy. LOL ok, dizzier.

  2. Any rooftop veggie garden?
An herb garden was under construction near the pool area, CIMS. Terry told us that some tenants had expressed interest in gardening in a courtyard somewhere (not sure where that would happen). —Pam

YOWZA! I say Girl, girl, girl to that! I used to live in LA and I loved going to all those high rise clubs. Now that I’m old and lazy, I just get vertigo. Thanks for the show!

Wow – I don’t think I’d have been able to get very close to the railings at that height but sure glad you could and shared your photos with us. Thinking about that bird’s eye view makes me wonder what my space looks like from up above….

  7. Hi Pam,
Austin is one of the places on my list to visit. The downtown skyline is beautiful!

  8. Gosh, I remember when that brown and white stair-step building in the 3rd picture was the tallest building in town.

WOW is all I can say. You couldn’t be afraid of heights to live there.

  10. I won’t recognize your skyline anymore on my next trip through Austin. The river views from way up are really impressive!
