Patio weather

April 30, 2010

It’s the perfect time of year for sitting on the upper patio, looking out over the raised beds as a succession of plants burst into bloom.

Little details please me, like this bird in my succulent dish.

Dianthus ‘Bath’s Pink’ perfumes the garden with a delicious clove-like scent.

Looking the other direction, and breathing deeply

‘Etoile Violette’ clematis twines up the deck skirting.

Winecup sprawls among the rocks.

And a damselfly, like me, just lazes about, taking it all in.

Dontcha jus luv this time of year. We have been keeping our patio chairs hot. The dianthus is blooming here too. Lovely vignette.

  2. Darla says:

I would love to join you on your patio surrounded by so much beauty.

  3. Rachael says:

Love the patio and the view. I wish we spent more time on the patio. The semester is near end (Hubby is a student), which will help. Just gotta get some chairs!

  4. Gail says:

I love patio weather~the views of the garden and the setting sun make for good evening sitting. We’ve had chilly nights and wished I hadn’t given the firepit away. Great capture of the damselfly. She must love the water in your garden. gail ps I can’t recall, do you put mosquito repellent in your stock tank? Planning ahead for mine!
I only put mosquito dunks (not repellent) in the pond if I don’t have fish in it, Gail. Otherwise, the goldfish do a great job of eating up any mosquito larvae, and I never see any larvae swimming around in there. —Pam

  5. Love all the deep jewel colors and then that icy pink dianthus. I’m like you. I can’t sit still in the garden. Best time I had this week was visiting someone else’s where I didn’t feel the need to do any work or run around with my camera.

When’s the party Pam? We are so lucky here to have nice weather to sit outside and enjoy our gardens. We did the same thing last night with our visitors but I am wishing I had a lovely clematis like that one to look at. Really do need to replace mine.

  7. Caroline says:

Everything looks splendid, Pam. Your clematis is just gorgeous — did you find it locally, or via mail order?
I found it at Barton Springs Nursery a year ago, Caroline. —Pam

  8. Sheila says:

Oh!!! I want to sit for a spell on your patio! it is lovely!

  9. Phillip says:

It looks very inviting! I would love to be there right now with a good book and a glass of tea.

  10. Floridagirl says:

I agree. This is the best time of year for patio sittin’! Just breathin’ deep and takin’ in the little details. I really, really love your clematis by the way!

  11. Jayne says:

Your patio is gorgeous! What a lovely place to sit and take in the view. And you’re right, this is the perfect time of year for it.

  12. We sit on the porch year around. But, it is really nice, right now. The sun sets behind our house, and the light coming through the trees, into the Deer Grove, is so pretty.
Your fish should be good mosquito control. We had a pond, at our old garden, in DFW….the fish would jump completely out of the water to catch something flying by. Very entertaining.
    Have a great weekend.

I’ve been so busy outside that I’ve gotten way behind on reading my favorite blogs. This afternoon I’m finally catching up and have enjoyed seeing what’s going on at Digging. Enjoy as many evenings as you can on tha patio … summer’s coming all too soon!

  14. Hard to imagine how anyone will ever feel hot in such a lovely cool, blue-tinted garden! Gorgeous.

I have long admired your blog; is there a way to subscribe? I like the follow button on blogspot, and don’t see anything similar to that here. Sorry if I am missing an obvious way to subscribe.
Thank you for reading, Terra. Yes, you can subscribe to my blog by clicking the Subscribe button near the bottom of my sidebar. It will take you to Feedburner, where you can subscribe via your choice of feed readers. I hope that helps! —Pam

  16. I just love all the rich blue in your garden Pam, and your patio looks so inviting. I’d like to use ours a little more, but every time I think it’s safe to bring out the patio cushions…whoooosh, it rains again. Oh well, I know our warm and dry weather will settle in soon.
You notice I don’t have cushions out either, CVF. With our humidity and spring showers, they’d be damp all the time. —Pam

  17. We’re still a few weeks off from patio weather (been cool and rainy) but I love the idea of it and glad you’re getting the opportunity to enjoy it!
By the time your patio weather arrives, Loree, ours will be over, except in the cooler evenings or unless dripping wet from a pool or sprinkler. Vive la différence, eh? —Pam

  18. Lisa Blair says:

I love your patio! The outdoor rugs are too cute. Are they rubber? I’ve been looking to replace one of mine.
The rugs are called Mad Mats, Lisa. They’re made of recycled plastic, are soft on the feet, and fade resistant—perfect for outdoors. They sell them at local nurseries in Austin. —Pam

  19. Pam, it all looks so “cool” and pretty. Little details like that outdoor rug are what makes the space too. Sip a mint tea for me.~~Dee

  20. Kathleen says:

What a beautiful place to sit Pam! I would be out there every chance I could. Unfortunately, it still isn’t patio weather here ~ we just had 4″ of snow again on Thursday morning. Waiting for some warmth and here it is almost summer in your garden. Not fair!! 😉

  21. Looks like just the perfect place to relax. I simply must explore more clematis. But it is all lovely. Ahh. . .

  22. Carol says:

Where do you get your blue bottles, what product is it from as I am searching for inexpensive ones to make my own bottle tree. I love your garden it is magnificent and the colors are lovely, my garden is a work in progress and I rent so I hate the thought of having to leave it someday.
Mine are mostly sake bottles, Carol, given by a friend who spent time in Japan. The nice thing about a bottle tree is you can take it with you when you move. —Pam
