I’m writing for Candide, a new website and app for U.S. gardeners

June 30, 2020

Candide, a website and social sharing app for gardeners, recently launched in the U.S., after first growing its user base in South Africa and the U.K. Now that U.S. gardeners have access, I’m happy to announce that I’m writing articles for the website and sharing more-personal gardening photos and posts via the app, which is kind of like Instagram for gardeners.

You can find a few of my gardening articles there now, with more to come.

And if you join the free app, you can find me there too, under the imaginative username PamPenick. If you’ve ever thought it would be fun to have a gardening blog but haven’t bothered with setting one up, or if you share plant pics all the time on IG or FB, boring your non-gardening friends and family, Candide is for you.

Check Candide out, both the website’s gardening articles and the social-sharing app. I’ll see you there!

So excited for this new app. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to reading and sharing. Talk about going down the rabbit hole;–)

    • Pam/Digging says:

I look forward to seeing lots of U.S. gardeners there, Gail. Hope you enjoy the rabbit-hole excursion!

  2. Ginny says:

Boo hoo! Candide app is not available for a kindle fire. Sounds so fun. Congrats on being a contributor!

    • Pam/Digging says:

Oh, bummer! They’ve just started rolling it out in the U.S., so maybe the Kindle Fire will have access to it sooner or later?

  3. And I just started using Instagram! OK, I will give Candide a shot. How do you pronounce “Candide”?

    • Pam/Digging says:

Cool! I’ll look for you there, Michael. It’s pronounced like the title of the book by Voltaire, which is what it’s named after. Here’s what they say on the website:

      Our story

Candide draws inspiration from Voltaire’s novel of the same name. His love song to gardening follows the journey of the lead character, through the trials and tribulations of life as he experiences extreme hardship and disillusionment.

And yet, in the end, Candide is at peace with himself, life and the world through cultivating his garden. “We must take care of our garden” is his lasting profound reflection.

Candide is a growing movement that encourages us all to reconnect with our gardens and share the joy of gardening.

We believe that gardening is the root of happiness, and cultivates well-being for the mind and soul.

I clicked over to follow your Insta account. Another thing about Insta that I liked as a travel writer was that I could hit 3 platforms at once–Insta, FB, & Twitter.

      • Pam/Digging says:

I gave up on Twitter 3 years ago, but I enjoy Instagram and post regularly there and on FB.

  4. Kris P says:

    Thanks for the heads-up, Pam!

  5. Diana Studer says:

Good to know – if someone like you is writing for them I trust the info more. I occasionally use the web-based version for commonorgarden plants.

    • Pam/Digging says:

Thank you, Diana, for the compliment! They seem to be hiring garden writers — rather than writers who may not know about plants or gardening — to write articles for the website.

  6. Kathleen Scott says:

    Congratulations! I’ll check Candide out

    • Pam/Digging says:

I look forward to seeing more and more American gardeners, and especially Texas gardeners, on the app. 🙂
