Supersized sculpture at Mueller’s Southwest Greenway trail

January 14, 2020

The only place I’m happy to see a supersized spider is on the walking trail at Mueller neighborhood’s Southwest Greenway. Arachnophillia by Dixie Friend Gay strides along the native-prairie trail, one steel leg extended as if to feel the way…

…or wave hello.

With a belly full of blue and green gazing globes and glassy purple eyes, she makes quite an impression as you walk through her towering legs.

You can also walk beneath a supersized grain of pollen on the trail. Pollen Grain by Chris Levack hovers overhead on steel legs, as Virginia creeper scrambles up. Just beyond…

…Levack’s Wigwam, rising above tawny native grasses, invites you inside as well.

Southwest Greenway’s mockingbirds agree that it’s a great place to explore on a pleasant winter day.

I love the giant spider! It would be a grand replacement for the “Bunny Stonehenge” in a nearby SoCal city.

Oh nice! Even if it is a giant spider… It seems less threatening outside than when I saw one of these inside a museum. And that blue sky!
