Summer scenes

August 10, 2019

Morning light in the front garden, with Berkeley sedge aglow, a hulking ‘Green Goblet’ agave, and a silvery groundcover of woolly stemodia — this is a summer scene I enjoy before the Death Star gets high in the sky.

And here’s another random summer scene, this one from Barton Springs Nursery back in June, where a patch of orange crocosmia glowed like embers.

Hot child in the city! I hope you’re staying cool even though August’s oven door is gaping wide open in central Texas. Only two more months until October’s cool-down, y’all. Hang in there!

As usual, Pam, i really enjoyed reading about your summer garden and what’s happening in Austin with our triple digit days and no rain. Since I am a coward and also have to confine my gardening to pots on the patio, I’ve been hiding in my SPINNING STUDIO with the air conditioner running at 72°. I’ve organized the studio somewhat, and spun lots of yarn, but I have watered my pots in the evening so most everything has survived. However, I really haven’t added much to the plants that survived last winter. With our rainy spring and early summer things looks so good I just pretty much left them alone. Now I need to add some fall color to perk things up. ….Maybe I’ll wait until it cools off a little bit more!

Stay in that spinning studio and keep spinning for a while longer, Laurie. I’m hoping the heat will finally break by early October, and then we can all enjoy being out in our gardens again. 🙂
