Lunch in the garden at Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse: Denver Garden Bloggers Fling

July 07, 2019

Dining on Persian chickpea kufteh, tofu Thai curry, and teacakes beneath a grape arbor in a sunken rose garden at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse was an elegant upgrade from the usual box lunches on Day 2 of the Denver Garden Bloggers Fling (June 2019). Boulder is a charming college town and tourist destination located just 30 miles northwest of Denver. We walked through a lively farmers market to reach the teahouse.

The colorfully painted teahouse was presented to Boulder by its sister city, Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The interior is even more stunning. According to the teahouse website:

“The teahouse ceiling was originally built, carved and painted in Tajikistan. Absolutely no power tools were used in the original construction. The work was crafted by hand exactly as it was centuries ago….[T]here are 12 intricately carved cedar columns…sent from Tajikistan with the original gift. No two columns are alike.”

Roses in shades of red, pink, and yellow line the front walk. Behind them is the tall grape arbor that sheltered us during our lovely lunch.

Thanks for taking photos of the inside of the teahouse. I didn’t take photos inside. That was a great lunch, so yummy, and a beautiful garden venue. I really appreciated that it was different.

Given the fairly grueling pace and amount of bus time on the Colorado fling, the tea house lunch looks like a brilliant, thoughtful decision on the organizers’ part. There’s something so right and restful about enjoying a meal beneath a leafy arbor…

The pace WAS fast, although I don’t remember feeling the bus time was more excessive than previous Flings. But yes, the teahouse lunch was terrific and such a lovely venue!
