Getting seedy at Botanical Interests: Denver Garden Bloggers Fling

June 29, 2019

At the annual Garden Bloggers Fling, we sometimes get insider tours of nurseries, garden-book publishers, and magazine test gardens. At Denver Fling (June 2019), we toured Botanical Interests seed company, 24-year-old family business co-owned by Judy Seaborn.

Judy (center) has been a longtime Flinger (her company’s blog is From the Garden) and Fling sponsor, and she led this year’s planning team in Denver. It was interesting to learn how the seeds are selected, packaged, adorned with color illustrations, and shipped off to customers.

Aisles and aisles of seed

Everything from edibles like lettuce and squash…

…to violas…

…to chives, both edible and ornamental.

One thing that distinguishes Botanical Interests’ seed packets is a beautiful illustration of the plant on each package. We saw this illustration by Donna Clement being readied for printing.

Pretty packet designs, each a work of art, laid out for mass printing. Thanks, Judy, for the tour, for your seeds, and for organizing a terrific Fling in Denver!
