Read my article about native-plant hellstrips in Wildflower magazine

October 29, 2018

Are you a member of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center? If so, when their member magazine Wildflower arrives in your mailbox, look for my article “Heavenly Hellstrips” and photo illustration.

“Heavenly Hellstrips” is about using native plants to liven up streetside verges, medians, hellstrips — i.e., that difficult strip along the street. I interviewed some Austin residents who shared their experiences, including Gary and Linda Citron in the Shady Hollow neighborhood and Colleen Jamison in the Highland Park neighborhood, whose beautiful garden I’ve written about twice: here and here. Bloggers who attended Austin Fling will recognize Colleen’s inspiring hellstrip garden, which we toured along with her home garden.
