Consolation prize from Gardener's Supply Co.

March 22, 2008

My garden didn’t get picked for the Gardener’s Supply Company catalog shoot. I’d hoped Green Hall Garden would get at least a cameo role, after two scouting visits by the catalog’s reps, but the week of Spring Break slid by without a final call-back.
Any disappointment was tempered this week by a delivery from the mailman. Inside a large Gardener’s Supply Company envelope, I found an early summer catalog, a gift card for $50, and a note from scouter Martha Burns that read, “Sorry we never got back to you! Maybe next time!”
Next time indeed. I’d be delighted to welcome her back to my garden any time. If she does return next year, I’ll show her my new blue watering can and 11-gallon, pistachio-colored Tubtrug, which I’m ordering today. Thanks, Gardener’s Supply Company. You’re a classy outfit.

I have one of those Tubtrugs from Gardener’s Supply. You will love it. It is handy, handy, handy. Mine is lime green.

Oh good! I thought it looked useful. I probably should have ordered a fancy new hoe for your Garden Bloggers Hoe Down. 😉 —Pam

Well, that is a nice consolation gift anyway. Maybe next year your garden will get picked! A blue watering can? Might have to check that one out!
Thx for visiting my blog. Glad you like my re-design. It doesn’t qualify does the quickest re-design ever tho…I have been blogging for almost 3 years and that off the shelf blog layout was around for awhile. Now I have my own banner and a much more appealing layout, thx to Jet. All pretty for my blotanical visitors!

I’m sorry for the mix-up, Carol. I didn’t realize you’d been blogging that long. I do like your new layout though. —Pam

I’m sorry you didn’t get in the mag. Hopefully next time you will. Your garden is stunning and we need you to represent South Texas. Sounds like some nice freebies. Now go use that gift card.
Thanks, Priscilla. I’m feeling very consoled with my nice gift card. Garden freebies are always grand. —Pam

I’m sure you’re a bit disappointed about your garden not being picked, but those are great consolation prizes.
I hope they do come again next year Pam and give your garden a second chance.
We had a sunny Easter Saturday but still chilly temps and a cold wind. We could do with a little bit of your Austin warmth!
Thanks for the cheery hello on my post and the Easter greetings 🙂
Only a little, Kerri. After all, my garden wasn’t really going to be on display if it had been chosen for a shoot. They were interested in things like gutter location and flat surfaces to shoot on. It was more the experience that I was hoping for, and—I’ll admit it—good blogging material. 😉 —Pam

Gardener’s Supply has some great items but the birdhouse on the cover…don’t get that one, it falls apart after one year! What were they thinking not picking your garden! Nice to send you the GC though! I have bought quite a bit from them and they are very good with customer service.
Thanks for the tip, Layanee. Actually, I’m going for practical items : a watering can and a garden trug. I briefly considered the funky chickens though. —Pam

  6. Robin says:

I’m sure you had fun shopping. I think it is harder for me to spend gift money than my own, I still haven’t decided what to do with my Lowe’s gift card that I got months ago.
I hope your garden is selected next time.
Thanks, Robin. I can spend a gift card as easily as my own—no trouble there! —Pam

  7. Anna says:

Sorry you didn’t get picked. You are so classy and I’m sure the competition must have been superb. I bet you get featured soon. Congrats on being considered–I think that is an honor. I’m going to go check them out just cause they were so good to you.
Do, Anna. The scouting folks were lovely people, regular gardeners like the rest of us. Thanks for your kind words. —Pam

  8. Frances says:

While it would have been great to see you in the catalog, them being so nice was rewarding along with the gift to spend. Sounds like you made good choices, a blue watering can would look nice sitting out waiting to be put to use, and the trug too.
    Frances
Yep, I’m pretty excited about my purchases and can’t wait to receive them. —Pam

  9. Pam, the gift card was a nice consolation prize. Sometimes, $50 is all I get for an article. Not getting rich by writing by any means.~~Dee
It WAS a nice consolation prize, particularly because I didn’t expect to receive anything at all beyond the fun of the experience. I thought it quite nice of them. —Pam

What a disappointment not getting into the catalog. Maybe next time. It was nice of them
to send you the consolation gift. You will just have to enjoy that.
    I certainly will! —Pam

I’m impressed. I, too, buy from Gardeners Supply. You can see their bird feeders and birdhouses in my backyard picture. I bought their corner brackets to build my raised vegetable bed. I am almost ready to buy the lumber and put it in. The weekends are too short.
I agree—the season is flying by. It sounds like you’ve gotten some good stuff from Gardener’s Supply Co. too. —Pam

  12. I think I’d rather have the consolation prize than the photo shoot – I’m so tempted by the Beehive Composters, or the fiberglass containers, or the birdhouses….
Those beehive composters looked pretty cool. I admit it was fun to shop the catalog with a gift card in hand. 🙂 —Pam
