Sunset at the beach

July 12, 2009

Our summer vacation this year is happening a lot closer to home than the Magical History Tour of last summer. Specifically, the back-yard pool. But while in Houston this weekend, visiting my sister and her family, we took a day trip to Galveston to give the kids a day at the beach.

After hours of boogie boarding in the waves and too much sun, we took a break for shrimp po-boys, then headed back to the shore for a little beachcombing as the setting sun turned the sky orange.

A day at the beach—heat, sand, sunburn, and all—is a kid’s ideal vacation. I still prefer the cool of the mountains, but an evening stroll in the surf, looking for shells, is pretty sweet too.

These photos show how fun your family time at the beach was.
I live 3 blocks from the ocean and love to walk along the shore.

    Pam,
I can never get enough of the beach… or the mountains for that matter. Love them both. Enjoyed your photos and glad you had the chance to take the family to the shore.

Looks like a glorious day at the beach!

Did you know that staycation was added to the dictionary this year? And it makes so much sense…

We don’t get beautiful sunsets here on the east coast of Florida, but walking in the evening can still be great. I use to like to “go” to the beach as in swim and stuff, but I got burnt out on that a month fter going 1-2 times a week. The beach is defintely more special and a treat when you live away from the coast and get to visit rarely.
    Hope you had fun!

That orange sky says it all about summer vacations at the beach. Hot hot hot. I’m with you in liking the mountains better.

Hi Pam, what a gorgeous shot! Glad you able to take that mini vacation and let the kids have some sand in their toes time, you too. 🙂

  9. Glad to see the beach recovering after Ike; I hope the town is on it’s way too. I have a soft spot in my heart for Galveston — we vacationed there almost every summer when I was a kid.

Sounds like fun. Every time I get close to the ocean, I have to have a shrimp po-boy.

    Pam,
I prefer the mountains too, but if I can ever make myself go to the beach I always have a good time.:-)

  12. I love the mountains. My husband loves the beach. We do trade-offs. Both are nice.
    That’s a great sunset shot.

I feel robbed, we don’t have shrimp po-boys on the Oregon coast! Beautiful shots Pam!

I often wonder what I would do if I lived somewhere the mountains meet the sea.
