Welcome to Digging!

I’m glad you’re here! Digging is for anyone who loves gardens, photos of beautiful plants, a sense of connectedness with nature, real-life plant info, design insights, how-to gardening tips, and virtual garden tours. Dirt-under-the-nails types and armchair gardeners alike will find plenty to enjoy here.

To familiarize yourself with my blog, take a tour of my regular series, including Plant This, Garden Designers Roundtable, Foliage Follow-Up, and my favorite posts.

Want to get to know me better? Read Meet Pam, My Gardens, Who I Am, and my philosophical musings about gardening.

What am I obsessed with? Using stock tanks in the garden, agaves, native Texas plants, garden design, and screech owls nesting in my garden.

Want how-to tips? Read my How I Did It series, which includes posts on making a container pond out of a stock tank, building a cinderblock wall that doubles as a planter, making a bottle tree, and laying a stone patio.

Are you curious about the quirks and anything-goes personality of Austin? Check out my Keep Austin Weird posts and a post I wrote about living in Austin. I’ve also posted tours of a number of independent local nurseries, and I invite you to scope out Drive-By Gardens with me.

Do you love to visit gardens when you travel? So do I! Click for tours of Botanical/Public Gardens and Must-See Gardens, or just read my Travel posts for plenty of garden visits.

Are you interested in memes (group postings on a particular subject) that I’ve started here at Digging? Check ‘em out: Foliage Follow-Up, Support Your Independent Nursery Month, and Bloggers’ Celebration of Our National Parks.

Scroll through my Resources pages for helpful information, like my blogroll, great nurseries, book reviews and recommendations, and plants I’m growing.

What about in-person meet-ups? You bet! The Garden Bloggers Fling, an annual meet-up of garden bloggers from across the country (and even from Canada and Europe), started right here in Austin in 2008. I headed up the planning team for the inaugural event, which included garden tours, a nursery visit, a lunch speaker, blogging discussions, a group dinner, prize giveaways, and a fun happy hour in my garden.

Austin has a vibrant, active garden-blogging community that holds regular get-togethers too. You’ll find posts about some of our field trips and other shenanigans under Garden Blogging.

Whew! That’s enough to get you going. I hope you enjoy your visit to Digging and come back again soon!
