Spring Fling & garden bloggers get press

April 26, 2008

Susan Harris of Garden Rant and Sustainable Gardening and Austinite MSS of Zanthan Gardens (with Mr. Peeps) at the Garden Bloggers Spring Fling—the first annual garden bloggers convention—a few weeks ago
Garden bloggers who attended the 2008 Garden Bloggers Spring Fling, held here in Austin on April 5, got front-page press in the Life & Arts section of the Austin American-Statesman today. Carol of May Dreams Gardens is called a “rock star,” and she, Dee, and MSS get plenty of quotes in the story by Robin Chotzinoff.

Saw the article and links to the Statesman gardening page. Tell me, how is Mr Peeps doing after all the attention that was lavished on him.

We’ll have to ask MSS. Maybe his traveling days are over. Jenny, don’t forget that you can put your blog address in the URI field of your comments. That way people who read them can find your blog by clicking on it. —Pam

    Hi Pam
I will let you know how the pink indigo does. If in fact does bloom continuously, it might be the perfect shrub for my yard. It’s supposed to be easy to separate/propagate so if it does well, I’ll share a batch. The Statesman article is generating lots of hits!

Ooh, thanks! It’s a beauty. —Pam

Very nice article Pam. Thanks for posting the link.
I’m excited about 2009 in Chicago!
Me too! Mr. McGregor’s Daughter, who attended the Spring Fling, says that she and a couple of other Chicago bloggers are making plans for a Fall Fling in 2009. Linda, I just realized that you are a Chicago garden blogger. Would you happen to be in on the planning? —Pam

  4. Me? A rock star? I don’t know about that, but I know I am one lucky gardener who found some kindred gardening spirits on the Internet who also liked to blog about gardening, and then I had the good fortune of meeting many of them in person.
Thanks again Pam, Melissa, Diana, and Bonnie for all the hard work you put into the spring fling and thank you to all the wonderful gardeners I met. We all had a great time, didn’t we?
I did think “rock star” was a funny way to describe modest, self-effacing Carol, but we did tell you that you are famous among garden blog readers, if you’ll recall. 😉 I felt fortunate to meet you and become your friend. —Pam

  5. Robin says:

Pam, I think you’ve all reached celebrity status! I’m so glad the Spring Fling was such a success.
So am I, Robin, since one of my early concerns was whether anyone would come. I hope to meet you at the next one. Chicago is a little closer for you. —Pam

  6. I guess I’m committed. DH thinks I ought to be committed. I’m thinking of an extended Fling, maybe a whole week – just kidding! The challenge is not going to be coming up with places to see, but narrowing down the list of places. So many sights, so little time.
Yes, that was how I felt too. I wanted to show more of Austin and its gardens, but there just wasn’t time to do everything. That’s why I was happy to tour around with the early birds on Friday and the late-stayers on Sunday. We got to see two more private gardens plus more Austin sightseeing.
I’m thrilled that you’re committed. Don’t worry, you can save having yourself committed until after the next Fling. ;-0 —Pam

  7. Thanks for the link, Pam. You’re always very generous. I thought the article was good. Can anyone see Carol with a guitar? Maybe she plays Guitar Hero in her garage. :-)~~Dee
    Now that’s an image! —Pam

The Statesman article is just a tiny slice of what must have gone on at the Fling but an illuminating one for those of us who didn’t attend. I think of Carol as a dynamo rather than a rock star 😉 Thanks for sharing the article.
