De-light-ful spring break art day

March 13, 2019

Home for spring break, my daughter and I made an art day of it yesterday here in Austin, first visiting the Lance Letscher exhibit at Stephen L. Clark Gallery. Outside I snapped an artful shot of my own: a Texas mountain laurel’s dangling, grape-soda-scented flowers and my daughter in miniature in the distance.

After lunch at Kerbey Lane Cafe, we headed over to the Blanton Museum of Art, where we enjoyed a very Austin message in blue neon: Make Tacos Not War.

Although the day was overcast, the museum’s Ellsworth Kelly chapel manages to capture light in a soul-lifting way.

This wall always reminds me of Jello cubes.

Dancing cubes of light

We noticed that our shadows on the chapel’s white walls had picked up the colors of the cubes.

We belong here, says another light sculpture in the Blanton. It feels good to belong to a place that you love, spending time with someone that you love.

I have never seen such colorful shadows. That is most interesting. All of these colors are so cheerful. Love seeing your ‘artsy’ photo of your daughter.

You certainly plan some interesting and fun things to do when your daughter is home.

I went with my daughter 2 weeks ago and got a bonus listening to Midday at Blanton- Sounds of Latin America. It was a cloudy day on our visit too. Love your shadow picture!
