Orange you glad?

November 12, 2010

Aren’t you glad for orange in the garden?

I know I am whenever I look at the Mexican flame vine (Pseudogynoxys chenopodioides) in full bloom, attracting tiger swallowtails who refuse the paparazzi’s plea for a pose.

And I’m glad for orange when I stroll past my cigar plant (Cuphea ignea), still going strong well into November.

Orange you glad too?

Your flame vine is gorgeous and I’m sure you are very glad. I’d be glad if I could get this vine to grow. Maybe I lost it because of last winter, but it never did amount to anything during the summer. Of course, I could try buying something other than a 4″ pot. That might help. .

I love that color in the garden. Always a nice surprise.

  4. I didn’t think I liked orange flowers at all. California poppies were apparently my gateway drug. Now I have an entire bed of various orange flowers. I guess that proves the old adage, “Never say never.”
