Look for my articles in Garden Design’s Spring 2018 issue

March 19, 2018

It’s still exciting when an article I wrote appears in print, and in the current issue of Garden Design (Spring 2018) I have two! And one of them goes with the cover image.

You can read about that garden in “A Place of Refuge” on pages 54-67. It’s about Lori Tersigni’s garden on the Oregon coast, designed by Buell Steelman and Rebecca Sams of Mosaic Gardens. If you missed it, I visited the designers’ own lovely personal garden in Eugene, Oregon, last summer.

I also had the pleasure of interviewing landscape architect Gary Ratway, who co-owns Digging Dog Nursery, to write the designer profile about his work on pages 124-141. That article was in-progress when, on a family vacation last summer, I passed through Albion, California, where I met Gary and his lovely wife, Deborah, at their stunning home garden.

I love where this writing gig takes me.

I received my Garden Design last week but have not read it yet. I finally got some relief from a medical problem and then read the Fine Gardening magazine which had arrived earlier than GD. (Since they only arrive every two months, I try to take my time reading to space out the pleasure!) It IS exciting to know you have been published in such a beautiful magazine! Congratulations!!!

I saw your byline on the first article, but missed it on the second. Both were great!

I was completely fascinated by the rammed earthworks in the Ratway garden. I want to know if they’re even remotely a DIY! You know me, those pictures gave me Ideas. 😉

    • Pam/Digging says:

I don’t know if rammed earth is DIY. But I know that organic concrete forms are, a la Keeyla Meadows. Check out her book for how-to info on creating low walls and other forms. —Pam

I have been debating a subscription for a year now because of the price but finally gave in and did it today. I look forward to reading your article.

You won’t regret it, Phillip. You can read on each issue for weeks — there are always so many in-depth articles and great eye candy. Enjoy! —Pam
