Landscape and Garden Design

Together we will assess your property and talk about your ideas, maintenance requirements, personal style and color preferences, and timeline for creating your garden or redesigning your existing landscaping. Consultations generally last about one hour, at which time I will provide you with a firm quote for a design. If you are ready to go ahead, I'll spend an additional half hour or so on your property for measurements and sketches.

Follow-up questions and discussions are welcome via email or phone. The design process generally takes between one and three weeks. At our follow-up meeting, I will provide you with a scale drawing of your new design; a list of plants and their maintenance requirements; recommended suppliers; and how-to information about prepping your planting beds, laying paths and other hardscaping, planting, watering, and maintenance timelines. My goal is to give you the tools you'll need to implement your new design over time as a do-it-yourselfer or by contracting out the work yourself, and the know-how to keep your new landscaping looking good over the long term.

My fee for a single consultation and accompanying design for one yard (front, back, or side) generally ranges from $400 to $600, depending on size and scope of the work involved. Larger than average yards may take more time; smaller spaces may take less. Design work is priced accordingly. 50% is due at initial consultation, with the remainder due when the design is delivered. Revisions are subject to an additional fee for time spent.

Garden Coaching

If you just need some direction to get going or to learn how to maintain your existing landscaping, a session of garden coaching may be what you're looking for. On an hourly basis, I can meet with you to brainstorm about design ideas, suggest plant choices, answer your questions about maintenance (when to prune, divide, fertilize, etc.), and ID plants. Coaching rate: $75/hr. (one-hour minimum).

Design and coaching services are available in the Austin area. I do not currently travel out of town for consultations, but depending on what you need I might be able to consult with you via photos and email. Please contact me for more information.
